Dr. Riopelle hosted a Good Deeds contest, which encouraged youngsters to write about their experience giving back to their communities.
This year Dr. Riopelle awarded the essay winner with a free Apple Ipad on September 21st, 2010. Many writers submitted, but the lucky winner was Madeline Mahoney.
And here is the winning essay:
I worked at the Monument Crisis Center where their motto is: “No one should have to go hungry.” The mission of the center is to provide food, help and referrals in crisis situations and provide community awareness of needs and available assistance. At the Monument Crisis Center I served breakfast consisting of yogurt, fruit, granola and cereal. I also assisted in handing out pajamas where I got to use a little of the Spanish I’ve learned. Lastly, I packed produce items such as bananas, onions, oranges, potatoes and carrots for 100 families in need in Concord. It is a very rewarding experience to be able to help others so close to home.
Very sweet! Congratulations, Madeline!
